Why We Use Natural Materials

Why We Use Natural Materials

by Ezra Shevick

It can feel like we are drifting further and further away from a natural existence: fresh produce wrapped in plastic, meeting people through a screen, playing on artificial turf instead of real grass.

Against this backdrop, many of us are looking for ways to feel more grounded and connected to the natural world.

We think one of the most important places to start is your bedroom.

At Do Not Disturb Sleep Company, we use natural materials throughout our product line. Not only for environmental reasons, but because we believe they offer better performance to support your rest.

Take our Wisewool duvets and pillows, for example. While many people associate wool with the cold months, wool also supports your sleep in the warm months. The unique structure of wool can absorb around 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet.

When you sweat at night, that moisture is able to move into the wool rather than staying against your skin. As it then evaporates out of the fiber, it pulls heat off of your body through the process of evaporative cooling. There is a reason wool is one of the oldest fibers used by humans.

But it is not just wool.

Our sleep masks are wrapped in a linen shell, a natural fiber renowned for its breathable feel. Linen helps create a lighter, less stuffy experience around the face - an important detail when you are trying to settle in for the night. Compared to a typical polyester mask, linen is more breathable and much more comfortable against the skin.

Overheating and sweat can be major causes of sleep disruption. Natural materials that breathe work with your body to support better rest.

So why do we use natural materials?

Simple. Because they deliver in ways that synthetics can’t - they are more breathable, more comfortable, and more grounded.

When you’re looking for a better night’s sleep, look to nature for the answers.
